Grade 4 took over the morning assembly this week with an original skit, “Dare to Be Free,” marking Independence Day with a story built around the school’s own motto. Eight students — playing everything from “The Friend” to the “Voice of the Past” — walked the school through what freedom really means: not just doing whatever you want, but choosing wisely, speaking kindly, and standing up for what’s right.

The skit moved from playground disagreements over cricket and football to a quieter, more serious moment, as two students speaking for the “Voice of the Past” and the “Voice of the Future” reminded the school that today’s freedom was won by others — and that using it well is now every student’s job. The performance closed with the full cast forming a V-shape around the Indian flag and a shared “Jai Hind.”

The students also drew a line from their own assembly to the wider world. Earlier this month, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, on receiving the Lokmanya Tilak National Award, told India’s youth that “national security is the responsibility of the entire country, not just of the armed forces, police or intelligence.” It’s a message that echoed, in miniature, exactly what Grade 4 had just spent twenty minutes acting out — that freedom and safety alike are things every citizen, however young, has a part in protecting.
